A Beginner’s Guide to Fire Cupping

Atlantic Chiropractic • March 1, 2023

Nobody wants to live in pain. If you are dealing with aches, pains, injuries, or other issues, it’s only natural that you’ll want to look for relief. The same is true if you are dealing with congestion or respiratory issues.

While there are many possible solutions that may have benefits, one that has been shown to provide safe and effective relief is fire cupping. This non-invasive therapy has many benefits and can help you feel better, recover from injury, and loosen and relax your muscles.

What is Fire Cupping Therapy?

Fire cupping therapy is a non-invasive

treatment designed to improve blood flow to damaged areas. This process dates back thousands of years and has been used in regions around the world.

The process involves using glass or silicone cups. These are heated and then placed upside down on the skin. This creates a vacuum inside the cup as the air cools. This vacuum causes your skin to rise and the blood vessels to expand. This improves circulation and improves blood flow into the affected area.

What Does It Do?

By raising the skin, the space underneath increases in volume. That means not only is blood flow increased in the area, but pressure in the area is also decreased. This reduction in pressure means less pain and more nutrients in the area. As a result, the healing process is stimulated.

Cupping also stimulates the immune system, not only reducing pain but also helping the body heal naturally.

What Are the Benefits?

There are many benefits to cupping.

Bringing additional blood flow and improving circulation to an area can help relieve tension in your body. It can also help stimulate healing. This has many benefits and can provide relief from many conditions.

What Conditions Does Cupping Treat?

There are many conditions that can be treated by cupping, including:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle soreness
  • Joint pain and arthritis
  • Tension or headaches
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Menstrual pain
  • Inflammation
  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Sports injuries

In addition to helping improve circulation and blood flow, cupping can also help remove toxins from the body. This means that it can even help lower respiratory issues or bronchitis. It can also help relieve congestion, help treat asthma, and much more.

If you’re unsure if cupping can help you, speaking to a professional can help. Our team will conduct a full consultation and let you know if fire cupping is an option for your situation.

Is There Any Downtime?

Generally, there isn’t any significant downtime with cupping. Your skin may feel tender in the area for about 24 hours, but there shouldn’t be serious issues. Depending on your situation, you may get an antibiotic treatment and bandages after your session to prevent infection. Within about 10 days, your skin will be back to normal once again.

In addition, while fire cupping is generally safe for most people, there are some people in some situations who should not try the treatment. For instance, if you have sensitive skin, broken skin, ulcers, or are pregnant, this treatment is not recommended.

People who have certain conditions – such as epilepsy, hemophilia, or history of strokes or heart problems – should also avoid fire cupping treatments.
