Debunking Chiropractic Care Myths

Chiropractic care has been around since the late 1800s, and this method of care has since healed and helped millions of people live happy and healthy lives.

Most individuals who have never been to a chiropractor don’t fully grasp the concept and the available chiropractic benefits.

Unfortunately, society believes many myths surrounding this type of care and asks themselves: are chiropractors doctors, or simply certified in one area of expertise?

What Is Chiropractic Care?

Many individuals will agree that chiropractic care is associated and concerned with back pain and spinal alignment, but it’s much more than that.

Chiropractic benefits also include treating musculoskeletal disorders, improving headaches and migraines, and improving joint pain, which could eventually allow you to stop taking pain medicine.

Whether you need a back adjustment, assistance with scoliosis, or help with migraine pain, chiropractic care can be a great option for you.

Myth 1: Chiropractors Are Not Real Doctors

One of the most common questions surrounding chiropractic care is “are chiropractors doctors?” Many individuals don’t know the truth behind that answer, so we want to set the record straight.

Yes, chiropractors are doctors. They are considered doctors of a chiropractic degree, which is different from a medical doctor (MD) but still puts them through extensive training, education, and hands-on experience.

Because of their training and expertise, chiropractors are allowed to provide you with many chiropractic benefits and diagnose issues that may have harmful side effects to other systems or parts of your body.

We have a full-time chiropractic doctor on staff at Atlantic Chiropractic with years of experience and education.

Myth 2: Joint Manipulators Are Painful

Joint manipulation is a technique used to reduce pain and realign muscles. Contrary to popular belief, joint manipulators are not painful and often used with chiropractic adjustments.

While you may be sore the next day, the actual pain from the specific area should cease or, at a minimum, reduce significantly.

Joint manipulators seem scary, but it feels like a seamless part of the treatment when performed in the same session as chiropractic adjustments.

Many individuals are, understandably, turned off by the sudden motion and movements of joint manipulation, but it can be an incredible source of pain relief if given a chance.

Myth 3: Chiropractors Can Only Help With Back Pain

Perhaps one of the most significant myths surrounding chiropractic practices is the misconception that chiropractors only help with back pain.

While treating back pain is one of the main chiropractic benefits, it’s not the only issue that chiropractors can help with.

Chiropractic adjustments
can improve neck pain, joint pain, headaches, scoliosis, and other musculoskeletal issues.

In addition, since chiropractors are doctors, they can diagnose your health concerns that you may have and get you on the proper treatment plan for your specific needs.
